it's happening

Spring that is!
We are finally starting to look like spring here.
On Sunday the robins arrived in flocks, along with the blackbirds and cowbirds, song sparrows and tree swallows, which made me feel delighted.

When I open the door I hear birdsong other than the chickadees that stay all winter and it is lovely.

On Monday the temperature rose to 19C and it was sunny.  Folks were out in their shirt sleeves and shorts, light spring jackets or sweaters, sandals and runners.  Gone were the winter jackets, scarves and boots!  Yesterday was another lovely mild day too and the snow melted even more.  Today is cloudy and cooler and we are expecting rain.  The weekend will be average April temperatures in the low to mid-teens

We are having a slow melt which is great but at the same time the snow is going so fast now.

There are lots of deer grazing on the hill most days.  I counted at least 30 one evening.  You can see the open spots in the above photo that I took on Monday evening, but now it is mostly bare brown grass.

On Monday evening Murray burned the brush pile that had been gathering since last fall.  We gathered more sticks and twigs that had fallen during the winter and added it to the pile.  It's nice to see that eyesore gone!

While he did that I sat on the back deck and enjoyed the fading sun dressed in a toque and winter jacket.  It was chilling down fast.

A typical April evening in New Brunswick.  :-/

Spring tulips and daffodils.

As it is Easter weekend coming up we will be busy with family and special church services.  We will have our dinner on Friday at supper time with our son and his wife coming as Saturday evening we have a church service as well as Sunday morning.  There is lots of special music planned for the services which Murray and I are taking part in.  It is such a special time of the year as we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

If you celebrate Easter, I wish you a very blessed holiday.

Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Blessings,
Pam

  1. Happy Easter! Aren't the robins wonderful! Your pictures are beautiful. We have robins here all year, but they are getting more active now and are nest building.

  3. The robins have been back here for a few days now, gradually. I still expect we might get another snowfall or two.

  4. I'm guessing that the signs of spring are most welcome and well recognized by you--and bring great joy. Probably far more than those who live in moderate climates. Enjoy! And have a wonderful Easter.

  8. I know how much you've been anticipating spring, Pamela, so I'm glad the snow is finally melting - and fast! Your spring centrepiece is sweet! I miss singing in the international choir I belonged to for 10 years, especially during Christmas and Easter, so I know how much you will enjoy that.

Wishing you a peaceful and blessed Easter,
    Hugs,
    Poppy

  9. Birdsong is one of the biggest joys in life.
It really looks spring has arrived where you live. I like very much the photo of the "typical April evening". :) Yes, there's still snow, but there's also the splendid spring light.
(We haven't reached 10C yet, but the snow is slowly melting.)
Wishing you all a most blessed and happy Easter. <3

  19. I can understand your pleasure of having the birds back and hearing them sing in the morning. In Germany we have a saying "one swallow doesn't make summer" as a "warning" when we got too excited about the songbirds coming back. However, it is a sure sign that spring is on its way. Here, the orioles returned earlier than usual and I couldn't get out the grape jelly fast enough for them. Wishing you many beautiful and warm spring days.

  20. You certainly have been under the cover of snow for a long while. I can imagine you are to see that grass poking through!
