some kind of shrub in bloom in the ditch Does anyone know what this is?
I'm still around. It's been one of those weeks and I've been neglectful of my blog and visiting, but it couldn't be helped. I will try to catch up soon.
Last Saturday I took a little walk along the road and got a few (45) pictures of what's growing this spring. Come along. Enjoy.

It was a cloudy and cool day and our spring is slowly evolving and bursting into bloom and new growth.
A teeny tiny maple tree growing in the ditch. Probably from a seed that blew there from one of our maples.
Fresh birch leaves.
An evergreen tree - spruce? - with new buds that will pop off their brown skins and be soft green shoots.
Cute fir or spruce trees that grew up on their own in the field.
The fields across the road are pastures. There might be cows pastured there this summer. I enjoy hearing their soft moos and sometimes they really like to bellow very loudly.
A wild rose bush just starting to push it's leaves out. Look at those thorns! I might dig this up and plant it in the yard.
An old tree stump that is slowly returning to the earth.
I saw something down in the drainage ditch in the field and discovered that it was a mallard duck pair. I think they might be nesting there. I had to blow this up as it was quite far away.
This is a rock. :) I call it the pyramid rock although it's not perfectly shaped like one. We grow rocks here on this ridge. You should see our garden!
I believe this is a blossom on a wild grapevine that was tangled around an old apple tree. I traced the branch back to the grapevine because it looks so much like an apple blossom. I'd never seen a grapevine bloom before.
More blossoms that are from the old apple tree.
Wild strawberry blossoms along the road.
Well, that was my walk last Saturday morning. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you get out and see what nature is doing this spring.
Watch your step!!
Well, it's sort of begun....the taking down of the old deck, that is. They are supposed to come this afternoon and remove the rest and put in the screw piles for the new deck and pergola. And wouldn't you know I'll be deck-less all weekend (and probably longer) and it's going to be nice and sunny this weekend?! Oh well, I'll get to enjoy the new deck so much more when it's all done. It's a gorgeous day here today though. I'll try to get around and visit but may not be able to comment much.
Have a wonderful day!
